Summer, 2003 During the summer of 2003 it was our pleasure to welcome several education groups to Lang's Quarry, to collect samples and educate students about paleontology. The following reports and photographs were kindly sent to us by some of our visitors during this past season. |

Hello Mr. Lang, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing me and my students to visit your most interesting quarry. I have always felt that the best way to educate students is to allow them to become involved in the subject. Your quarry is a prime example of a private educational resource. The students were fascinated to hunt for, collect and identify the specimens they found. In class the next day Eurypterids were all they wanted to discuss. Mercyhurst College is grateful for the hospitality
and time you spent with our students and the specimens you generously
donated. |

Mr. Lang: On. October 18th, 2003 the Fredonia State Geology Club visited Al Lang's Euryterid quarry. Both Geology majors and non-majors enjoyed the visit and found it to be very insightful. Mr. Lang generously donated the 33 specimens we collected to our college, much of this material was high quality museum grade. There are no other locations in the region
where the state fossil can be collected in such quantity and quality. The
continued availability of this locality to the public is essential for
the field of paleontology and public awareness. |

Dear Allan, I just wanted to let you know how very appreciative I am of your gift of Eurypterid fossils! Glenn Dolphin gave us some of these great specimens at the last SAR meeting and I know plans on sharing more at the STANYS conference. Unfortunately I will not be able to make the breakfast because our board of ed did not approve my leaving. I will however be there for the x,y,z sessions on Sunday. I am planning on having a workshop in December for teachers in the northwestern section of the State and I would love to have some of your business cards to give out at the workshop. I never had an eurypterid fossil to show my students before and cannot tell you how very appreciative I am that you are helping teachers in NYS have the State fossil to show. As a small token of my appreciation I would like to help you advertise your site on mine. I am in the process of revamping and so many changes will be taking place after STANYS. Thank you very much! What a great way to help students get their hands on our New York State history! Thanks again, |
